CONFIRMED: DC Comics Moves Under Skydance Products & Publishing — What It Means for Production
Film & Television Trade Signal | CONFIRMED | October 9, 2026
Skydance has placed DC Comics within its newly consolidated Skydance Products & Publishing division, bringing comic-book publishing, licensed publishing and consumer-products operations from Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery under a common leadership structure. Josh Silverman, Skydance’s president of global products and publishing, leads the group; former Warner Bros. Discovery consumer-products president Robert Oberschelp remains and reports to Silverman, according to Variety.
What changed
The division combines DC Comics with Paramount Global Publishing, licensed publishing operations, merchandise licensing, brand partnerships, retail and e-commerce. Its franchise portfolio spans DC, Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, The Lord of the Rings, Star Trek, SpongeBob SquarePants and other established properties. Skydance says the combined enterprise represents approximately $22.5 billion in global licensed retail sales and ranks second among media and entertainment licensors behind Disney; this is retail sales associated with licensing, not Skydance corporate revenue.
Silverman previously held senior consumer-products and franchise roles at Mattel, Disney and Marvel. His new remit underscores an emphasis on extending entertainment intellectual property across publishing, merchandise and consumer experiences.
What this means for production
DC Comics and DC Studios have different responsibilities. DC’s comics-publishing and related commercial activities now sit within Products & Publishing; James Gunn and Peter Safran continue to lead DC Studios’ film and screen-storytelling operations. The restructuring should not be read as an announcement that DC film or television projects have been canceled, newly greenlit or transferred to Silverman’s creative control.
The operational question is whether combined franchise planning translates into more commissioned screen productions, publishing work, promotional campaigns, physical products and related vendor activity. Consolidation can also reduce overlapping corporate functions. Neither hiring volumes nor specific Los Angeles crew calls have been verified from this organizational announcement.
Los Angeles workforce and vendor watch
- Production pipeline: Monitor confirmed DC, Warner Bros. and Paramount project orders, prep dates, stage bookings and California filming commitments—not franchise or licensing announcements alone.
- Creative and publishing labor: Watch for organizational changes affecting editors, illustrators, designers, licensing specialists and marketing teams.
- Local vendors: Track actual purchase orders and contracts involving production suppliers, fabrication shops, promotional production, experiential events and licensed-product partners.
- Hiring verification: A leadership change is a corporate trade signal, not a confirmed crew hiring signal.
Socialbilitty Trade Desk assessment
Signal tier: CONFIRMED — corporate restructuring. The organizational move is documented; its effects on production employment and Los Angeles vendor spending remain DEVELOPING. Socialbilitty Trade Desk will distinguish future verified staffing and production activity from corporate projections.
