CONFIRMED: FilmLA Sets LAX Filming Blackout and Van Nuys Lot Restrictions for November Shoots

LOS ANGELES | October 30, 2026 — Trade Signal: CONFIRMED

Los Angeles production teams planning film, television or commercial shoots around the November holidays face two newly specified airport-location restrictions. In an October 29 production alert, FilmLA says no filming or related activity will be allowed at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) from November 20 through November 30, 2026. Separately, the FlyAway and Gloria lots at Van Nuys Airport will be unavailable for filming from November 15, 2026 through January 31, 2027, although FilmLA says airfield filming at Van Nuys will remain allowed.

Both airports are inside Los Angeles’s core Thirty-Mile Studio Zone, measured from Beverly Boulevard and La Cienega Boulevard. This is a concrete local production-logistics alert, not a statewide or out-of-zone industry forecast. The restrictions affect location selection and advance planning; they do not establish that a particular production has booked either airport, cancelled a shoot or opened crew positions.

Two locations, two different restrictions

TMZ location Published restriction Effective period Practical production consequence
Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) No filming or related activity allowed November 20–30, 2026 Do not plan an LAX film or commercial shoot during the stated blackout; confirm any location changes with the airport film office
Van Nuys Airport — FlyAway and Gloria lots Lots unavailable for film use; airfield filming remains allowed November 15, 2026–January 31, 2027 Rework lot-dependent base camp, vehicle staging and location plans; do not interpret the lot closure as a blanket airfield-filming ban

Veterans Day changes the filing calendar

FilmLA says Los Angeles City and County offices, along with other jurisdictions it serves, will be closed on Wednesday, November 11 for Veterans Day, while FilmLA itself will remain open. The agency’s revised submission deadlines are due by 10:00 a.m. Pacific on the indicated date and apply to simple permits. Special effects, road or lane closures, drones and other high-impact activities can require more lead time.

Filming jurisdiction / site For November 11–12 shoots, simple permit due For November 13 shoots, simple permit due
Los Angeles City and unincorporated LA County November 6, 10 a.m. November 9, 10 a.m.
Culver City and LA County Parks November 5, 10 a.m. November 9, 10 a.m.
Glendale and LA City Parks November 5, 10 a.m. November 6, 10 a.m.
LAX and Van Nuys airports November 2, 10 a.m. November 3, 10 a.m.

These are selected within-zone jurisdictions, not FilmLA’s entire regional list. Later filming dates have different deadlines; crews should consult the complete FilmLA schedule rather than extrapolate from the table. The Los Angeles Administrative Code also identifies November 11 as a city holiday.

Why the change matters to location and below-the-line departments

Airport scenes can involve coordinated approvals for locations, airport operations, safety, transportation, equipment staging, lighting, sound and crew access. At LAX, the airport’s official Film Office guidance says production plans must identify filming areas, cast and crew numbers, base camp or parking requests and equipment. It also states that filming in restricted areas requires background checks, with at least five business days for processing, and that tenant or airline-space filming requires written tenant approval. Those underlying requirements remain distinct from the temporary November blackout.

For grips, electrics, camera, locations and transportation departments, the operational risk is an assumed location or staging area that is not actually available when the production needs it. A location change can affect equipment moves, lighting design, parking and crew calls. These are planning implications, not verified reports of cancelled work, layoffs or new hiring.

FilmLA’s Van Nuys Airport filming requirements already describe seasonal restrictions around Thanksgiving and the New Year. The newer October 29, 2026 alert provides the specific current dates for the FlyAway and Gloria lots; producers should follow the current notice and obtain site-specific confirmation.

Location managers and production coordinators should verify the intended filming area, whether a permit and separate airport approvals are needed, the correct jurisdiction’s deadline, any high-impact activity lead time, and an alternative staging or filming plan if the airport space is unavailable.
