CONFIRMED: Port of Los Angeles Shoots Require Port Preapproval and City Permit

SOCIALBILITTY TRADE DESK / PERMITS, SAFETY & LOGISTICS / CONFIRMED

Los Angeles, California | October 17, 2026
Editorial status: Confirmed. This is reporting, not a crew-call notice.

Port of Los Angeles filming is a two-part approval process: Port property approval and a City of Los Angeles film permit.

What is verified

FilmLA’s guidance updated October 1, 2026 states that all filming and photography on Port property requires preapproval from the Wharfinger Division. Applicants must submit a separate Port filming application describing locations and crew parking or basecamp, and also obtain the City permit through FilmLA. The FilmLA application deadline is 10 a.m., four business days before the first filming activity. Some filming activities require further permits.

Operational and workforce significance

Working terminals have freight traffic, controlled access, parking constraints and operational hazards. Locations, grip/electric, transportation and safety leads should confirm the exact footprint and restrictions before committing a shoot schedule. The rule concerns permit eligibility, not public availability of an individual terminal.
